One Day in Nassau at Sandals Grand Bahamian

One Day in Nassau at Sandals Grand Bahamian

During our Disney Dream cruise, one of our stops was Nassau. We had looked at the excursions that were being offered and nothing really appealed to us. We started searching online and came across the fact that several resorts in the area including Atlantis, Breezes Resort and Spa, Graycliff Hotel, Melia Resort, RIU Palace Resort, Sandals Royal Bahamian and Warwick Hotel all offer days passes. So we decided to get a day pass to Sandals Royal Bahamian.

How to Get There

When you first exit the port, there will be a ton of taxi drivers telling you how much it cost to drive you to Atlantis. We simply told one of them we wanted to go to Sandals and he called a taxi driver to take us there. It took about 20 minutes total to get there, there was some traffic so it would probably take 15 minutes with less traffic. Our taxi driver asked us what time we would like to be picked up and we told him 3pm and he told us he would be back at 3pm to get us.

Cost

We paid $110/per person for the 10am-6pm time slot. To purchase, you simply show up at the resort at 9:30am. They only sell a limited amount of day passes each day so make sure to get there early! The price included everything you would get just as if you were staying at the resort. So basically, all you can eat and drink, full use of all the pools, facilities, activities, and even access to their private island.

Activities

At 11pm, we went on a tour of the resort led by a Sandals representative. We really enjoyed this because we had never been to this particular Sandals Resort before. We had also received a daily activities guide to let us know what would be going on thru the day and which restaurants would be open at certain times.

There are 7 pools and 6 whirlpools and lots of pool games were going on while we were there led by the Sandals entertainment team. In addition, there are also 2 swim up pool bars. We didn’t bring our swimsuits so we sat on the sidelines sipping on a Pina Colada.

Also offered are a wide array of water activities including canoes, kayaks, windsurfing, Water Trikes, Snorkeling, Hobie Cats, Sailboats, and Paddle Boarding.  The beach was so serene, we ended up finding an empty hammock and just laid there for a while soaking up some sun.

Food

There are 10 specialty restaurants on the property but only a few are open for lunch. We ate at something Royal Cafe & Grill for lunch. They had a full menu of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and salads. They also had a nacho buffet bar. We each had a drink (of course!) – the Sunset and the Margarita.

Before we left, we sat on the patio at Spices and were very happy to see they had several gluten-free desserts in their buffet. We had chocolate mint mousse , strawberry shortcake and coffee. Both the chocolate mint mousse and strawberry shortcake were some of the best gluten-free desserts I have ever had.

Private Island

Sandals owns a small private island about a 5 minute boat ride from the shore. A boat runs every 30-45 minutes and will take you back and forth from Sandals to the private island. There are two sides of the island – one for relaxing and snorkeling and the other for high energy water sports. There is also a pool, whirlpool, swim up bar, and a seafood restaurant.
