9 Reasons Why Disney is the Best Cruise for Adults

9 Reasons Why Disney is the Best Cruise for Adults

When I think Disney Cruise, I think kids…and lots of them! But I love Disney World and I had never been on a Disney cruise so I finally convinced my husband we should go on one. He was very reluctant at first but we finally agreed to do a 4 night onboard the Disney Dream. Another fact I had heard was that Disney caters very well to special diets and since I hadn’t been on a cruise since the start of my Paleo diet, I thought this would be a good way to see how I would fare on a cruise. So, here’s 9 reasons why Disney Cruise Line is the best cruise for adults:

Palo & Remy

Disney Dream offers two adults only restaurants, Palo for $25 per person and Remy for $75 per person. My husband and I decided to try Palo. Disney has 3 dining rooms, which means on a 4 night cruise, you will repeat one once. The one repeated is usually on Day 2 or 3 so we decided to book Palo on Day 2 so we wouldn’t miss out on one of the dining rooms. Palo was one of the best meals I have ever had. The server already had the details of my diet so he told me what I could and could not eat.

First, an antipasto platter was brought out with an assortment of meats, olives, and artichokes. For an appetizer, I had the Ciuppin soup which had mussels, calamari, red mullet, monkfish and shrimp. Then they brought a palate cleanser, lemon sorbet, our server checked to make sure there was no dairy in it for me. For dinner, I really wanted the dover sole but it was breaded, no problem the waiter said, he would go talk to the chef about making one unbreaded for me! For dessert, I had the orange almond cake and lastly, an apple pie vodka aperitif to end the night. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend it.

Adults Only Pools and Pool Deck

Another reason Disney Cruise Line is the best cruise for adults is that the Disney Dream offers two areas on Decks 12 and 13 called the Quiet Cove and Satellite Falls that have adults only pools and lounging areas. On Deck 12, Quiet Cove, the pool also has an attached swim-up pool bar. Deck 13, Satellite Falls, has a smaller pool but with a larger lounge chair area and beautiful views. We spent some time on both decks on our sea days and it was very relaxing.

The Cove Cafe (Coffee Bar)

Nestled away on Deck 12 near the adults only pool is The Cove Cafe Coffee Bar which serves premium coffee drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic!) The entrance is very futuristic with a door that spins open like you were on Star Trek. This area is very quiet and would be a great place to grab a premium coffee and sit down with a good book. They also offer a punch card, buy five coffee drinks and your six coffee is free!

Mixology, Liquor and Wine Classes

We did both a tequila tasting and a wine tasting while on board. The tequila tasting was $23 per person and the wine tasting was $25 per person. These really are classes, I learned so much about both tequila and wine in each class. During the tequila tasting, we got to sample at least 6 different types of tequila while the bartender explained to us the differences. When we were done, he sent us away with full glass margarita! During the wine class, held in Pink, a Master Sommelier went thru six different tastings of wines from whites to reds and explained to us the origins and the flavors. We also got a cute little pin at the end!

Senses Spa and Salon

I’m going to be honest, I am not a spa person. I’ve had one massage in my life and it wasn’t for me. However, I wanted to mention the spa and salon in my list because I do hear its amazing, especially for a cruise ship! They offer a range of services from massages and facials to cellulite reduction and acupuncture.

Excursions

On every itinerary, Disney offers select adults only excursions from snorkeling to visiting historical sites. In Nassau, we actually decided to buy a daypass from Sandals Royal Bahamian in advance and spend the day there. When we got off the boat, we asked who could take us to Sandals (as most of the signs said Atlantis) and we were pointed in the direction of a cab driver and he drove us to Sandals. A daypass includes complete use of the facility which includes all you can eat food and drink.

We toured the resort and then laid on a hammock for a while and watched the waves come in while we sipped on a Pina Colada. We ate lunch and then walked around a bit more. Later on in the afternoon we decided to have dessert and coffee at one of the restaurants. We told our cab driver to pick us up at 3pm and he was right on time waiting for us at the gate! Activities on Board

Aside from mixology and wine classes, there were a lot of other adults only activities on board. For instance, on our first day there was an acupuncture demonstration in the Rejuvenation Spa. On most nights, there was Bingo in the Evolution nightclub. There were game shows geared towards adults like Snippets, ’80s Music Trivia, Krazy Karoke. There were other classes like “Making of the Disney Dream” and “Animation: Creating a Character.”

Lounges and Bars

The Disney Dream does not disappoint with its 11 themed bars and lounges. As soon as you board, you will see the Bon Voyage Bar on Deck 3 and will more than likely be your first stop for an alcoholic beverage. “The District” on Deck 4 becomes adults only after 9pm and here you will find District Lounge, Evolution, Pink, Pub 687 and the Skyline Lounge. Also on Deck 4 is Vista Cafe where you can grab coffee and pastries during the day and a pre-dinner cocktail at night and D Lounge where you can grab a quick cocktail a boogie down to some karoke. On the pool decks are Cove Bar, Waves Bar, and Currents Bar. Lastly, tucked away on Deck 12 is Meridian, a wine bar tucked between Palo and Remy.

Serenity Bay

If you’re looking for another reason why Disney Cruise Line is the best cruise for adults, look no further than their private island. On Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, there is an adults only beach called Serenity Bay. It is the furthest out beach on the island and you can either walk or go by tram. We decided to take the tram there since we weren’t sure how far it was and then we decided to walk back to explore the island. There are plenty of lounge chairs on the beach for everybody, a beachside bar, Cookies Too BBQ, and a place to rent floats and bikes. Massages are also available on Serenity Bay in an open-air cabana.

  • We have been on the Disney Dream as a family and loved it! I would definitely love to take a couples-only Disney cruise to really be able to relax and explore all of the adults-only amenities!!
    • I wish I had done the 7 day - there were definitely things we didn't get to do on the 4 day that I would have liked to have done. But I guess that means I'll have to book the next one on the Disney Fantasy...or I would also love to do an Alaskan cruise with Disney!
    • Yes, I would highly recommend it for adults looking for a different Disney experience than the same old same old Disney parks resort stay.
  • Oh, my ~ I really didn't need much convincing! LOL. We love Disney cruises and, one day , Hubby and I will take one alone. The boys are older, so we can actually spend some quality time as a couple on the cruise, but definitely would love to do this as a couple one day. Disney cruises rock!
    • I agree, Disney cruises rock! I would love to go on one of their smaller ships because I hear they are a whole different feel.
  • Admittedly I have been someone who falls under the umbrella of believing Disney Cruises are for trips with kiddos only; and I’m a huge Disney lover! I’m so thankful for your post as it has genuinely changed my outlook. Now, time to find time to fit a cruise into our busy lives!
    • Yes, we are huge Disney lovers as well but wanted something "different" then the usual week long resort stay at Disney World!
