Messinn Restaurant – Reykjavik, Iceland
Before going to Iceland, I did a lot of research on places I could eat. Not only was I on Paleo, I was actually doing the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) which is pretty much Paleo on steroids. No really, it’s an elimination style diet for people with autoimmune diseases and I was in the “reintroduction” phrase. So, I had to be really careful I didn’t eat something that I hadn’t reintroduced yet.
One of the restaurants that stuck out to me was Messinn. The food they are best well-known for our their fish pans – huge cast iron skillets full of vegetables and fish!
Lactose-free Salmon with parsnips, broccoli, cashews, coconut oil, chili and lemon? YES PLEASE! (I had already reintroduced cashews so I knew I would be ok with those). My husband and I looked around and we realized the fish pans were huge so we ended up splitting one and it was plenty of food for the both of us.
Here is just MY portion! It also comes with potatoes and salad and since I don’t do white potatoes my husband ate those (he wasn’t complaining).
Yep…we hated it, haha!
I would recommend Messinn for anyone traveling to Reykjavik that is on a restrictive diet who wants a nice sit-down dinner but not overly pricey. Other menu items that I saw were gluten, dairy and sugar free included a lobster salad, various other fish pans including arctic charr, blue ling, cod and plaice. You could also get extra salad with your fish pan for around $7 USD.
