8 Ideas for an Adults Only Disney World Trip
Many people think that Disney parks are only for families but the reality couldn’t be further from the truth. We love going to Disney as a couple, with my mom, and with our friends. There’s a reason after all, that Disney World is continuously ranked in the Top 10 for Honeymoon destinations every year. So, after many years of traveling together as adults, here are our best ideas for an adults only vacation at Disney World.
Table of Contents
Eat at a Signature Restaurant
There are 15 Signature restaurants across Disney property including in the resorts, hotels, and Disney Springs.  These restaurants are the creme de la creme of Disney World dining and they do certainly live up to that standard. Our favorite Signature restaurant thus far has been Narcoosee’s at the Grand Floridian. The Lobster Bisque is absolutely to die for and you can’t beat the location right on the water of the Seven Seas Lagoon. For a special treat, make a late dinner reservation and request to sit by the water so you can watch the fireworks over the Magic Kingdom!
Spa Treatment
Did you know that Disney World has 3 full service spas on property? They are located at the Walt Disney World Dolphin, the Grand Floridian, and Saratoga Springs Resort. Treatments include facials, massages (including couples massages!), body wraps, manicures, and pedicures. Admittedly, I have never taken advantage of a Disney World spa experience but it’s definitely on my to-do list!
Splurge on a Luxury Resort
When we took my mom for her 70th birthday, we splurged and stayed in a two-bedroom villa at the Grand Floridian. In my opinion, the Grand Floridian is not only the most luxurious resort at Disney World, but one of the most luxurious resorts in the U.S. We had so much fun just sitting in the lobby and admiring the beauty of the resort. We also did Afternoon Tea in the Garden View Tea Room and we felt like royalty!
Be a Kid Again
For two years, Brian and I went to Disney during the Halloween season and we bought tickets to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party. I cannot tell you how much fun we had dressing up and trick or treating around the Magic Kingdom like we were kids again! This is definitely one of my favorite special events that Disney puts on. The parade being led by the headless horseman and the Hallowishes Fireworks Spectacular are the best shows Disney puts on, dare I say.
Bar Hopping
Disney has so many amazing themed bars across their property – my two new favorites are Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at the Polynesian Village Resort and AbracadaBAR on Disney’s Boardwalk. Another great option is La Cava del Tequila in the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot but be careful because the line can get very long, especially during the Food and Wine Festival! If you’re staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Victoria Falls bar is a great choice as well where you can sample African wines (our favorite!) and nibble on African inspired tapas.
Epcot Food and Wine Festival
The Epcot Food and Wine Festival runs from late August to mid November every year. There are over 30 food and drinks kiosks set up all around World Showcase. Food portions are appetizer size and range from $4-$9 and drinks range from $3-$10. There are also additional talks, demonstrations, and events available for an additional cost. You can read about our Mexican Tequila Lunch experience here.
Character Couture Makeover
You’ve probably heard of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, right? You know, the one where little girls get made over to look like their favorite princess. Well, did you know that Disney now offers the same thing for adults?? That’s right, at the Ivy Trellis Salon at the Grand Floridian you can get made over to resemble your favorite Disney Princess. There are several options and the packages range from $50 (hair only) to $130 (hair, makeup and nails). And it’s not only limited to Disney Princesses, get creative with your stylist and choose anything from classic Disney to Marvel to Star Wars!
Take a Backstage Tour
One of the cool things about being an adult at Disney is you’re old enough to go on all of their backstage tours! Brian and I have been on two – Behind the Seeds Tour at Epcot and Keys to the Kingdom Tour at Magic Kingdom. The Behind the Seeds Tour took us behind the Living with the Land attraction at Epcot and explained all about Disney’s hydroponic vegetable growing. The Keys to the Kingdom Tour was fantastic, it took us behind the scenes of the Magic Kingdom and into some backstage areas and even underground into the tunnels underneath the Magic Kingdom!
