9 Things to Pack on a Long Haul Flight
Admittedly, the longest flight we have ever been on was about 7 hours to Europe. However, we had friends of ours just fly to Singapore and it was a 22 hour flight (yikes!) It got us thinking how would we survive a 22 hour flight because we would definitely like to visit Asia in the near future. And if Dollar Flight Club keeps sending us amazing flight deals, it might be sooner rather than later! So, here’s our list of 9 things to help you survive your next long haul flight.
- Mini Toiletry Bag
- This could really include anything you felt was necessary but I would suggest at the bare minimum hand lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste, and dry shampoo. For the ladies, you might also want to include some make-up powder to freshen up before you land. Say goodbye to the traditional quart size bag and use this one instead, complete with 3oz bottles!

- Headphones
- Entertainment – iPad, Kindle, iPhone
- Charge up and load up those devices beforehand with your favorite books, movies, TV shows, and games. Make sure you download games that can both be played online and offline. Some of our favorite offline games are The Room (and all of its sequels), Threes!, Unblock Me, Flow Free, and Sonic the Hedgehog.

- Sleep Kit
- I would suggest buying a blackout sleep mask, sleep pillow and ear plugs. Most flights to Europe will be overnight flights and you will want to sleep so when you land in Europe, you’ll be ready to explore! And it’s the worst to be on a plane where all you want to do is sleep but you just cannot. get. comfortable.
- First, let me preface this by saying this thing looks super weird but it is the best sleep pillow EVER. The TRTL Pillow wraps around your neck like a scarf and you can literally sleep anywhere.
- Second, you may think all eye masks are created equal but they are not. You really should spend the money to get a blackout sleep mask and if you plan on going somewhere that has daylight during the evening, it will come in handy then too! We really like this one because it contours to your eyes and doesn’t feel heavy while you sleep.
- Lastly, ear plugs. These will especially come in handy if your neighbor is a snorer or the toddler three rows back is having a meltdown. If you are super sensitive to noise, you could just use your noise cancelling headphones. If you don’t want to sleep with them on, I would recommend these reusable soft silicone earplugs.

- Portable Battery Charger
- There are awesome little contraptions, plug your device in and you’ve got an on-the-go charger. We used to buy the small ones but upgraded to this one from Anker which can charge our iPhones upto 8 times before it dies!
- Hand Sanitizer
- You’re going to be on that plane for a long time with a lot of people that have a lot of germs. Everytime you touch anything whether it be the bathroom door, the seatbelt, or your very own tray table – you are going to want to use the hand sanitizer.
- Medication
- Water Bottle
- Nothing will make you more dehydrated than being on a plane for a long period of time. Whether you choose to buy a big 20 oz. bottle of Smart Water from the airport gift shop or purchase one of these collapsible water bottles, just remember to stay hydrated throughout the duration of your flight.
- Snacks
- Snacks on airplanes can be super expensive which is why I suggest bringing things like granola bars, nut packs, apples, and bananas.
